Spatial Properties of Mismatch Negativity in Patients with Disorders of Consciousness

In recent decades, event-related potentials have been used for the clinical electrophysiological assessment of patients with disorders of consciousness (DOCs). In this paper, an oddball paradigm with two types of frequencydeviant stimulus (standard stimuli were pure tones of 1000 Hz; small deviant stimuli were pure tones of 1050 Hz; large deviant stimuli were pure tones of 1200 Hz) was applied to elicit mismatch negativity (MMN) in 30 patients with DOCs diagnosed using the JFK Coma Recovery ScaleRevised (CRS-R). This paper offers a study of fifth- and fourth-century BC epigraphical and literary documents pertaining to what we may call ‘ancient ecology’. Even though documents are not many, there is proof of laws governing cleanness and decorum of Greek cities’ public space. The control theory of driving suggests that driver distraction can be analyzed as a breakdown of control at three levels. Common approach for analyzing distraction experimentally is to utilize capacity-based measures to assess distraction at the level of operational control. Artikkelin lahtokohtana on kysymys lingvistisista indikaattoreista eri funktionaalisia kielitaitotasoja osoittamassa. Tutkimuskohteena ovat suomen kielen U-verbit, joiden on aiemman tutkimuksen perusteella todettu tuottavan ongelmia hyvin edistyneillekin suomenoppijoille. U-verbit ovat intransitiivisia verbijohdoksia, joiden kantaverbeilla on tavallisesti A-vartalo, esim. vaihtaa > vaihtua ja jatkaa > jatkua . Eksponentiaalisen tasoituksen menetelmillä voidaan ennustaa tulevia havaintoja. Yksinkertaisen eksponentiaalisen tasoituksen menetelmällä ennustetaan tulevien havaintojen tasoa, kun taas Holtin lokaalin lineaarisen trendin menetelmä mahdollistaa myös aikasarjan trendin ennustamisen. Näiden menetelmien tarvitsemat tasoitusparametrit saatiin uskottavuusfunktioita optimoimalla. Esiteltyjä menetelmiä sovellettiin vertailemalla suomalaisten miesten ja naisten alkoholikuolleisuutta eri 5-vuotisluokissa vuosina 1969-2016. Estimating aggregated nutrient fluxes in four Finnish rivers via Gaussian state space models

Reliable estimates of the nutrient fluxes carried by rivers from land-based sources to the sea are needed for efficient abatement of marine eutrophication. Although nutrient concentrations in rivers generally display large temporal variation, sampling and analysis for nutrients, unlike flow measurements, are rarely performed on a daily basis. The infrequent data calls for ways to reliably estimate the nutrient concentrations of the missing days. Here, we use the Gaussian state space models with daily water flow as a predictor variable to predict missing nutrient concentrations for four agriculturally impacted Finnish rivers. This article takes up a central question of Kirsti Siitonen’s dissertation – how advancedness in Finnish as a second language can be characterized – and investigates it from the perspective of research terminology as well as the lived experience of language users. We first discuss how and with what implications advanced learners of Finnish have been referred to in the research literature, i.e. whether they have been regarded as learners, speakers or other kinds of language users. Applying a small stories approach to interview data from different research projects, we then explore what advancedness means to such language users themselves. Tämän tutkimuksen lähtökohtana on keskustelu siitä, voidaanko demokratialla saavuttaa ilmastonmuutoksen hillitsemiseksi vaadittuja ympäristöystävällisiä ratkaisuja vai ei. Ympäristöystävällisten ratkaisujen saavuttamiseksi on ehdotettu demokratian kehittämistä ja verkostomaista uutta hallintaa, mutta myös demokratian rajoittamista. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoitus onkin selvittää, miten paikallistaso mieltää ilmastopolitiikan piirin ja luonteen: vaatiiko ilmastopolitiikka laajaa osallistamista tai osallistumista?
